The fallout from the supreme courts ruling on abortion laws (Roe vs Wade) continues and now Justice Clarence Thomas has urged the court to reconsider all past rulings which have been in favor of same-sex marriage, consensual same-sex, and birth control.
There is no doubt that the Roe vs Wade ruling will now ‘open the door’ on all past rulings dealing with personal choice. Justice Clarence Thomas would now like his colleagues to overturn the below rulings
Griswold v. Connecticut:
‘states had no right to ban contraception
Lawrence v. Texas:
‘consensual same-sex sex’
Obergefell v. Hodges:
‘same-sex couples could legally marry’
Three of his colleagues Justice Breyer, Justice Sotomayor, and Justice Kagan have all pushed back on his suggestion, which was made on Friday, while Justice Clarence Thomas was giving his opinion on the overturning of Roe v Wade.
While 6 out of the 9 Justice’s on the supreme court ruled in favor of overturning Roe vs Wade, will give a signal to people who are opposed to same-sex marriage & LGBT+ equality that the law is on their side and this could very well lead to individual stats looking to overturn past rulings & place bans on same-sex marriage & any LGBT+ rights which stand in that state.
The US now looks like a county which is taking a step back and leaning towards a religious-style government, instead of a freedom of choice democracy.
